Can Joe Biden survive his poor debate? Even his friends aren’t sure

Can Joe Biden survive his poor debate? Even his friends aren’t sure. Is Joe Biden going to live?. There is still uncertainty among many Democratic strategists, officeholders, fundraisers, pundits, prospective competitors, and close allies, three days after the president had a dismal performance in the first 2024 campaign debate.

Minutes after the CNN debate in Atlanta aired, a chorus of worries about Joe Biden as the party’s nominee surfaced both publicly and privately. The footage showed a raspy and occasionally unsteady Biden up against an inflated Donald Trump who was flinging taunts and lies.

Since then, Team Biden’s attempts to solidify his support and move on haven’t allayed concerns about his chances in November and the potential ramifications for other Democratic contenders.

As former Democratic national chair Donna Brazile said on ABC’s “This Week,” “The fact is people are nervous; there’s a lot of anxiety.” Having fielded so many desperate calls from fellow Democrats, she said she considered “dropping my phone into the Potomac.”

She defended Biden by saying, “He’s a good man and a strong president, and Democrats still think this race can be won.”

With party rules making it almost impossible for him to be replaced on the ticket without his consent, it has become evident how much of that decision is left up to Biden alone, especially considering the short amount of time he has left to make it.

In order to meet an Ohio deadline that had threatened to keep Biden off the ballot there, a virtual roll call for the nomination is scheduled for August 7, even before the convention officially opens.

However, a poll conducted by CBS News and YouGov on Friday and Saturday revealed that the debate had made the 81-year-old Biden’s age—his greatest vulnerability—more apparent. According to 72% of eligible voters, he lacks the mental and cognitive capacity to be president. The same proportion, comprising 36% of Democrats, felt he had no business seeking the presidency.

Overroll And this: Democrats run the possibility of internal strife with all of their alternatives, which could hurt their chances of winning with any nominee. Can Joe Biden survive his poor debate? Even his friends aren’t sure.
